About me
Dr. Jones is an Associate Research Scientist in the Biosciences group at the University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute. Her research focuses on human factors, engineering anthropometry, vehicle occupant protection, human modeling for vehicle design and other areas of ergonomics, including tools to facilitate the design of consumer products.
Although her research addresses the population as whole, she seeks to prioritize children of varying ages, occupants susceptible to motion sickness, obese occupants, and military personnel. She has extensive experience in developing and conducting laboratory studies to gather strength, posture, and anthropometric data aimed at developing design tools for child restraints and essential for the development of design standards that can protect children from product hazards.
Dr. Jones’ research is supported by a diverse portfolio of industry and government funders, including Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the U.S. Army, Waymo, AISIN, Toyota Boshoku, Honda R&D, Ford Motor Company, Toyota, General Motors, and Apple. She has published over 100 technical publications, including 25 referred journals articles.
Dr. Monica Jones is a Board-Certified Professional Ergonomist (BCPE) and member of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society, American Society of Biomechanics, and Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) International. She holds a B.Sc. in Biological Sciences from the University of Guelph, an M.H.K. (with a specialization in Applied Human Performance) from the University of Windsor, an M.S.E. (with a specialization in Human Factors/Ergonomics- HF/E) and Ph.D. (HF/E) in Industrial and Operations Engineering from the University of Michigan–Ann Arbor.
