Jonathan Midgett, Ph.D. is the Consumer Ombudsman at the U. S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) in Bethesda, Maryland [https://www.cpsc.gov/About-CPSC/Consumer-Ombudsman]. Since joining CPSC in 2001, Dr. Midgett has been evaluating emerging hazards and contributing to the development of voluntary consensus standards for juvenile products. He has held multiple roles at the agency, serving as an engineering psychologist, the Children’s Hazards Team leader, and Senior Science and Policy Advisor to the Chairman. His analyses of human behavior have contributed to recalls and rulemaking actions associated with the prevention of childhood injuries. His research has appeared in the Psychonomic Bulletin and Review, Contemporary Educational Psychology, The Encyclopedia of Marriage and the Family, Injury Prevention, the Journal of Children’s Health, the Journal of Safety Research, the Journal of Pediatrics, Academic Pediatrics, and the Journal of the American Medical Association.
